The ymxb Ironman Learning Challenge requires students to work in pairs to design, build, and test mechanical suits (armor) that surrounds two core robots.  Students program the robots to solve the mission of touching three buttons before entering a large cylinder.   The slope/intercept form (y=mx+b) is used as an algorithm to enable proportional line following behavior with a light sensor.   Armored robots follow a black line that circles the cylinder with three outer buttons.  Three tires are to be picked up along the way.   The fastest teams get their names on the Ironman trophy.

The ymxb Football Derby requires teams to work in groups of five to solve a programing challenge using the slope/intercept form (y=mx+b) algorithm used in the Ironman Challenge.  Each team member strategically selects a line that leads the core robot through an opening.   Teams develop a plan to get one of the five robots to win the race.  Teams may use sabotage and blocking but no armor.

The Rube Goldberg learning challenge requires small groups to build as many innovative machines on a board to complete the simple task of turning a page in a book.  Think of the MOUSE TRAP® game with dominoes, zip lines and roller coasters all activated by a robot traveling through.

RobOlympics splits the class into two teams to compete in the following design events; NASCAR, Drone Duel, Crank Tank Contest, Conveyor Belt Tug-a-War,  Mousetrap Car Conversions, Solar Car Race, Edison sumo, Edison Race without wheels, Catapult, EV3 Color Identification, Toothbrush-Bot Battle, DC Motor Marathon, Team Poster, and Team Flag. The team elects a project manager, and designs a logo.
